Alpina Garbanzo MTB helmet

Alpina Garbanzo MTB helmet
The Alpina Garbanzo MTB helmet in test - I took a close look at the all-mountain helmet and tested it in practice. It is the Garbanzo the little brother of the Alpina top model, Carapax. At 292 g, it's a real lightweight, and that's despite its deep neck retraction.
Alpina is known to me as a brand for sports glasses and helmets for a long time. Having long been convinced by the Alpina Twist four Shield, I was now keen to try helmets from Alpina. The Garbanzo MTB helmet is the first candidate.

Safety and comfort

Each bicycle helmet is subject to the identical test criteria with me. First, I adjust the helmet correctly to my head shape. This works by means of the turning screw on the back of the helmet. So that the straps on the right and left sit optimally in front of and behind the ears, these are also still adjusted to the correct length.

Subsequently, I try the Garbanzo off my head in the test. This does not succeed and should not. This would ensure that I do not lose the helmet from my head when I fall. He can also not slide backwards or forwards during the ride and block my view.

However, a good MTB helmet must not only fit well, it must cover a lot of surface area when falling. Therefore, the Alpina Garbanzo helmet is, among other things, pulled far into the neck and thus protects optimally on impact from all directions. From above, the helmet is closed.

So that the head is always well cooled, there are sufficiently large ventilation openings. Alpina has also attached a sturdy insect screen to the front openings.

To keep the sun from getting directly to your eyes, even without sunglasses, there is a sufficiently large visor at the front. On the Alpina Garbanzo, the visor is pinned on, but holds up properly. The big brother has a screw-on visor. It fits very well on the Garbanzo and has a high-quality finish.

The closure is closed under the chin in a fine gradation. Due to the gradation, it is possible to wear even times a thin cap under the helmet, without having to readjust the straps again. The closure is simply inserted into each other and to release is pressed on the red button. Thus, the helmet is also easy to open with one hand.

To be able to use the helmet after a strenuous ride also another time hygienically useful, the pads can be easily removed. These are attached only via small Velcro fasteners.
If a Velcro fastener is actually worn out, you can always buy the parts in a hobby store for a few cents. In return, you always have a fresh helmet.

Conclusion

Initially, I feared a too high temperature under the helmet, since this is closed from the top. However, the slightly larger ventilation areas at the front make up for it well. The helmet remains pleasantly tempered. The pads do not let me feel the helmet after a few minutes and the straps I could adjust very well to my needs.

On and off he is like any helmet quickly. Visually, I find him very appealing. The dark shell with the olive colored tail. In combination with the orange accents a real feast for the eyes.
